Upper School Friday Clubs

The Friday Clubs meet once a week every Friday afternoon during the last period of the day. They serve as an enjoyable break from classes before the weekend.

The purpose of this club is to listen to and discuss music and lyrics from the 70s, 60s, 50s, and earlier. Students will be responsible on a rotating basis for bringing in a song (either on tape, CD, flash drive, album, or downloadable), lyrics, and background for discussion. Join fellow film enthusiasts as they focus their viewings and conversations on acclaimed filmmakers such as Orson Welles, Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, Noah Baumbach, Woody Allen, Joel & Ethan Coen, etc. To give fair warning, we must stress that this club is not for the "average" filmgoer. However, to those fo you who actually enjoy discussing and watching classic masterpieces, Oscar winners new and old, and overlooked (most often obscure) independent films: This club was made for you.

Song Writers

Hey musicians! This club is for you if you're interested in learning how to write your own music. You need to have some basic musical talent/experience playing an instrument (guitar, keyboard, bass, singing, drums, etc...) or writing lyrics/lyrical poems. (Guitar Hero doesn't count.) We'll have weekly jam sessions and projects, both individual and group, that help us write our own songs. We might even put on a concert and record a CD! Students will need a musical instrument and creativity.

Doubles Anyone?

Many of you may not be aware that you have a virtual McEnroe and Fleming or Bryan and Bryan in your midst... okay, so we're nowhere near as good as either of those teams, but the team of Crosby/Dalton is arguably the best doubles combo on this particular part of Lady's Island. We want to share some of our successful strategies with BA's tennis players. This club will focus on teaching tennis skills and techniques that are necessary for effective doubles play, and will include and analysis of angles, court coverage, and other important doubles strategies. For this reason it is not suited for the beginning tennis player, but is perfect for expierenced players who are accustomed to singles and want to improve both their doubles play and their net games in general.
