Beaufort Academy has announced a new curriculum focus for the 2017-18 school year. Honors for Leaders is a four-year curriculum designed to teach leadership concepts and skills. According to Head of School, Dan Durbin, students will take a leadership related course each year. These courses will include Fundamentals of Communication in Leadership, Ethics and Values in Principled Leadership, and Organizational and Community Leadership. During their senior year, students will complete the program by participating in an internship with a corporate or professionally sponsored mentor. The capstone of the internship will be the planning, executing, and presenting of a senior project.
Beaufort Academy will also offer additional programs to support leadership development. Beginning fall of 2017, students may take a newly developed Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. This program is affiliated with the United States Air Force. It is designed to promote Leadership, Character, Fitness, and the study of Aerospace. The program mirrors the Air Force Jr. ROTC and allows cadets to earn rank and awards as well as qualify for scholarships.
The school is also excited to announce a new International Studies program. Durbin states that Beaufort Academy is committed to preparing students to view the world from an holistic, global perspective. He believes that the leaders of tomorrow will need to have an objective understanding of world cultures, political processes, and economic models. This program is also designed to enhance leadership and communication skills.
We are looking forward to a great school year!
