Dear BA parents,
9/14/18 @10:07am
Good morning,
We hope you and your family are far from impacted areas of Hurricane Florence. Our hearts go out to the families in NC, and northern SC. Based on the updated forecast it’s looking like there will be less significant impacts in the Beaufort area.
Beaufort is expected to have minor coastal flooding, wind gusts up to 31 mph Saturday night, and possible downed trees and power outages. The worst conditions are expected from late Friday afternoon through Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service. Storm surge and hurricane warnings do not extend to Beaufort County, but that could change into the weekend.

Due to uncertain weather conditions which will affect the school-day attendance of our faculty and staff, we have decided that Beaufort Academy will be closed for the rest of the week. We apologize for the indecisiveness, but the Hurricane path has changed greatly in just 24 hours. Because the projected track of Hurricane Florence remains uncertain, the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.
All athletic and extracurricular events will remain cancelled and will be rescheduled. BA has decided to cancel the college fair field trip due to BA bus transportation. If a student would still like to attend the college fair in Savannah, please email Maureen Butler at [email protected]
A decision on reopening schools will be made this weekend and relayed to parents as soon as possible. Please check our website, facebook, and now text messaging for the latest information.
Please note that we will not always follow Beaufort County school openings and closings. We operate a smaller school, and do not provide transportation, so we are able to make decisions based on our staff and student size. We will never put a family in danger, so please understand that we are making the best decision to keep the learning in process, without having to make-up days on a Saturday or at the end of the school year.
Thank you again for being so patient, and we hope you stay safe the next few days.

Governor McMaster has lifted the evacuation for Beaufort County due to the altered path of Florence, therefore Beaufort Academy will be returning to school tomorrow, September 12th. We understand that some have already left town, but if you are in town, we expect to see students and teachers tomorrow morning. Student absences will be excused if you are out of town.
After school activities, and athletic practices and games will resume tomorrow as well.
Thank you for understanding, and please be safe returning home

Governor McMaster has declared a state of emergency concerning Hurricane Florence and has closed schools in the eastern part of the state, including Beaufort County. The governor has ordered a mandatory evacuation of Beaufort County and other South Carolina coastal counties beginning at 12 p.m. Tuesday. This evacuation will include road reversals on Highway 21, Highway 278, Highway 501 and Interstate 26. Therefore, Beaufort Academy will be closed starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 11th until further notice. We will follow the orders of the Governor, and will resume when the evacuation is lifted. All athletic and school related activities & games will also be cancelled until further notice.
As of right now, we cannot say when normal school operations will resume but parents will get emails, and should check the BA website and Facebook this week for the latest information.
As Hurricane Florence approaches, parents and students should monitor news media and follow the directions of Beaufort County Emergency Management. Please be safe.
